The Custom Shop  The Custom Shop!When Dave's Shaves began operations, all of the spokeshaves were custom made. That is, each was an "adventure", no two the same, because of special requests. Custom ordered shaves were always an option and will continue to be offered. Custom Shop models are available in base offering hardwoods as well as requested wood species. Custom Shop shaves feature a select hardwood body that is hand contoured by files prior to sanding and finishing. The result is a unique sculpted shape to each shave. Custom Shop shaves also feature two additional sizes not available in Traditional models. No. 0 Compass Custom (The "NY Bowback") This is the "detail shave". Those who use and are familiar with wooden spokeshaves covet antique spokeshaves of this size. The small size allows one to access tight radii or perform delicate work. This small compass shave has all the same modern performance features as found in the larger Dave’s Shaves wooden spokeshaves. The body is shaped to patterns frequently seen in antique shaves of this size. The high performance Hock cutter is 1 1/2” wide and 3/32" thick. Available in hard maple. No. 1 Standard Custom (The "Sack Back") The Standard Custom shares the same components and features as the Standard Tradition model with the addition of a custom shaped body. No. 2 Compass Custom (The "Continuous Arm") The Custom Compass shave shares the same components and features as the Compass Tradition model with the addition of a custom shaped body. No. 3 Standard XL Custom (The "Seat Shave") Limited Availability The latest shave in the DS lineup is a larger version of the flat sole No.1 size shaves. Physically larger and with more mass, this shave is ideal for working on larger objects or for use as a dedicated seat shave. The body is hand shaped and the blade is custom made for Dave's Shaves in high carbon O-1 steel. The blade has a 3 5/8" cutting edge and is 3/16" thick.
