Reproduction Wooden Spokeshaves & Service |
The Tradition The Tradition continues!Following in the spirit of woodworking's earlier days, these tools represent the tradition of how wooden spokeshaves were offered to the trades. Original spokeshaves were production made from quality materials and components. They were built to do their jobs well and be dependable for the demanding professional shop. Tradition model spokeshaves are a blend of the old and new worlds, using the popular "Sheffield" style body and modern steel blades. The elegant simplicity of construction and the classic spokeshave look belies the abilities of this tool. No.1 Standard Tradition (The "Sack Back") Don't be surprised if this shave becomes the most reached for tool in your inventory. If you build Windsor chairs, this shave will handle 99% of your spokeshaving tasks. The No.1 Tradition has a flat sole with a brass wear plate. The modern, high carbon steel blade is made by Hock Tools to our specs. The blade has a 2 3/4" cutting edge and is 1/8" thick. It sharpens easily to an exquisite edge. The depth of cut is fully adjustable and indexed via set screws accesable from the top of the shave body. The body is made from select traditional hardwoods and is 11" overall. ![]() No 2. Compass Tradition (The "Continuous Arm") This spokeshave has a rounded sole for accessing inside curves or concave edges that a flat sole shave or hand plane cannot reach. The No.2 Tradition shares the traditional look and feel of original antique shaves of this type, but is of a stouter size utilizing the large Hock blade. This gives this shave a better feel and presence on larger work pieces. The No.2 Tradition has the same body pattern as the No.1 Tradition with the same blade adjustment feature, but it’s sole is not brassed. Brassing is available as an option. ![]() |
